How To Create Mobstac CNAME Setting for Domain Names Registered at Syskay.com

Recently, many bloggers who have registered their domain names at www.syskay.com keep contacting me, asking me how they can access their DNS settings. Unfortunately, Syskay.com, as at the time of publishing this post, does not offer DNS Management. Hence, you will not be able to personally enter "CNAME" and "A-records" for your registered domain name(s) at the site. This is a great limitation especially to Syskay.com clients who want to personally create custom domain name for their blogspot blogs and also to those who want to create CNAME for their mobstac sites.

Well, if you are victim of this limitation, I am sharing with you, in this post, a solution that works. The solution involves the use of Namecheap Free DNS service. This solution works with any domain name registrar that do not offer DNS management. Hence, the reason why I am sharing with you, how to use the Free DNS service with Syskay.com in creating a CNAME for a mobstac site e.g m.ogbongeblog.com

The Namecheap FREE DNS service offers an easy-to-use DNS management console which you can use to fully manage your DNS settings irrespective of where you registered your domain name. Namecheap.com offers this service FREE with the expectation that if you enjoy the service, you might be interested in transferring your domain name(s) to Namecheap.com someday. Good marketing strategy..huh? Yeah.

Let's get started.

==> Go to www.syskay.com

==> Scroll down and click on the "Support" link

==> Use the log in form on the page to log into your Syskay account

==> Click on "Domains", then "My Domains"

==> Click "Manage Domain" next to the domain name you want to configure

==> Click on the "Nameservers" tab

==> Tick the "Use Custom Nameservers"

==> Enter the Nameservers below as seen in the picture above

    freedns1.registrar-servers.com
    freedns2.registrar-servers.com
    freedns3.registrar-servers.com
    freedns4.registrar-servers.com
    freedns5.registrar-servers.com

==> Click the "Change Nameservers" button

==> Go to www.namecheap.com and sign up for a free account

==> Log into your Namecheap account and go to www.namecheap.com/products/freedns.aspx

==> Enter your domain in the form "ogbongeblog.com" and click the "Get DNS" button

==> You will see ".....can be added to our system" as seen in the picture below

==> Click on the "Add DNS Service for Selected Domains" button as seen in the picture above

==> If successful, you should see "Congratulations! Your domain/ sub-domain is added to our DNS service....."

==> Since you have already added their Nameservers to your domain name earlier, you will just have to wait for your domain to be activated. This will take some few minutes.

==> You can follow up with the status here: https://manage.www.namecheap.com/myaccount/hosteddomainslist.aspx

==> Keep checking the page and once the domain is active (indicated by a green "tick" sign under "status"), you can set up the zone records as explained below

NOTE: You will have to be refreshing the page for you to confirm if it has been activated or not.

==> Click on the domain name and you will see a page similar to the one below:

==> In the first box (with host name : @), under IP Address/URL, enter http://www.yourblog.com/

Choose "URL Redirect" as the record type and enter 1800 as the TTL.

==> In the second box (with host name : www), under IP Address/URL, enter ghs.google.com.  (please take note of the dot after the com)

Choose "CNAME" as the record type and enter 1800 as the TTL

** The two settings above are the settings needed to create a custom domain for a blogspot blog, which you must do to change your blogspot address to a dot com address.

==> To create a CNAME for your mobstac site, you will have to enter your settings via the "Sub-Domain Settings" as explained below:

==> Enter m in the first box as host name, enter yoursite.mobstac.com. as the IP Address/URL (take note of the . after the com), select CNAME as the record type and enter 1800 as the TTL.

==> Click on the "Save changes" button.

That's all.

Wait for some minutes for the servers to be updated. Once the changes have been effected on the servers, if you access m.yourblog.com, it should take you to the mobstac powered version of your blog.

I hope this helps.
