Globacom Nigeria recently in Lagos Nigeria, unveiled the Glo Soccer Academy; a TV Reality show tagged The Dream Team. The Concept of the Glo Football Academy is to provide a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity for young talented footballers to kick-start their career in professional football; and to offer viewers at home the opportunity to participate in the process of selection and elimination.
The academy is expected to discover football talent within the West Africa sub-region where the company has its footprints, and expose them to international football. Screening will take place in nine centers - Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Enugu, Benin City (in Nigeria), Cotonou, Port-Novo (in Benin Republic), Accra & Tamale (in Ghana).
Forty-five youths will make it to the semi-final from where 33 talented finalists will emerge. They will be camped in a soccer academy in Lagos and trained by celebrity coaches (including coaches from Manchester United) for one month where they will compete to be part of the 16 finalists that will train and play at the Manchester United Soccer School.
One of the 16 finalists will win the ultimate prize of N5m as the Most Valuable Player (MVP). The rest 15 members of the team will go home with N1m each. In addition, all 16 finalists will win the G-Bam Scholarship worth N750,000 and automatically become Glo ambassadors.
The entire reality soccer-drama will be aired for 13 weeks on major TV stations in the three countries and viewers will have the opportunity to participate in Trivias, Save and eliminate players. Fantastic prizes will be won too.
