It's going to be an evening of glitz and glamour as Africa’s best in the television and movie industry gather in Lagos, Nigeria for the first ever AfricaMagic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA 2013).
Created to celebrate African film and television talent, both in front of and behind the cameras, the AfricaMagic Viewers' Choice Awards will feature several special categories in which viewers were allowed to decide the winners directly, alongside several professionally judged categories.
In total, 28 awards in 26 categories will be awarded ranging from acting and directing to script-writing and cinematography. Other fields which will be honored include editing, make-up, sound, lighting and costuming among others. In addition the awards will feature two categories destined to become annual talking points – the Industry Merit Award and the Trailblazer of the Year Award.
The two hour, 30 minute extravaganza will be hosted by Big Brother’s IK Osakioduwa and StarGist leading lady Vimbai Muntinhiri and will feature a star studded red carpet show hosted by among others Big Brother alumni Uti Nwachukwu and Nic Wang’ondu along with gorgeous TV stars Eku Edewor, Dolopo Oni, Sarah Hassan and Helen Paul.
Providing entertainment on the night will be superstar performer Femi Kuti, along with Kenya’s Sauti Sol and Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage.
News just in is that other performers on the night will include hit makers Banky W, Chidinma and Iyanya along with Ghana’s Efya!
The events will be screened to DStv audiences across the continent with the gala being screened live.
Tune in for a live one hour pre-show from 19:00 CAT, before the AMVCAs kicks off at 20:00 CAT, live on DStv channels AfricaMagic (154), AfricaMagic Entertainment (151), AfricaMagic World (155), AfricaMagic Movies (152) and AfricaMagic Movies 1 (153).
If you tune in to catch the glitz and glamour of the Red Carpet, pre-show on Saturday, 9 March from 19:00, you will be able to see which actors are at the show, find out which designers and stylists dressed them and hear their thoughts on the AfricaMagic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
It promises to be a high profile event and the first of many for AfricaMagic.
